2006 KLR Restoration and Upgrade

I purchased a 2006 KLR 650 with 3,800 original miles. The bike had been sitting outside for years and is running pretty rough. I have/am painting the plastics and replaced many accessory items to include the doohickey. I am looking forward to actually riding this thing in the near future.

Mods so far:
Doohickey (Eagle Mike)
Tusk bars (Rocky Mountain ATV)
Tusk Hand Protectors (Rocky Mountain ATV)
All Balls throttle cables (Rocky Mountain ATV)
Uni Filter (Rocky Mountain ATV)
Sanding / Painting plastics
LED lights (continuing this work)
12 Volt plug
New tubes
Manual Choke
.22 cent mod and KLX Jet (Eagle Mike)
Belly plate / Drain plug (Roccky Mountain ATV)

Welcome; great project and I look forward to seeing some progress pics. :-)

One thing; the 22 cent mod and the KLX kit are an "either/or".

Cheers,
Dave

Ride it some before you spend a lot of cash on it.

Not for me. Lazy I guess. I really don't like working on them. 25 years of working on cars burned me out. I did a bunch on my 09 but when I got the 14, all I did was the "have to do's". Heated grips, install trunk, GPS & heated jacket wiring. Comfort items only. Would have done the Dooo but miles never added up enough to make me worry about it. Also knew me and the bike were not getting married

What brand of heated grips did you put on and are you happy with them?

Oxford

I've owned & installed 3 sets (3 different bikes) & I love em'

They heat up fast and cook!
I run mine at 30 percent.
They shut off by themselves so battery never gets drained.

They sell 3 sizes. KLR needs the "adventure" style.

I wasn't aware of the 15 posts before I am allowed to post pictures so I guess I will have to comment on everything. I will post my modifications over the weekend and get to the pics. I painted my tail section this morning and the orange looks pretty good (Chevrolet competition orange). I will have to offset with stickers and some black pin striping I purchased. Hopefully I can ride next week. The West Texas weather is pretty much 11 months of riding out of the year.

You can go to this thread and rip off 13 posts real quick like.

Just so you know, before we started the 15 post thing we had scads of scammers and spammers.

It's a necessary evil.
