How about a little ride around Loudoun County on Sunday August 21?
v2 will depart at 10 am from somewhere on Rt 50 TBD near Middleburg.
Mostly dirt. Last time out we covered 90 miles with a lunch break.
So thats my plan.
Open to suggestions, recommendations but not to trash talk.

Bumpety-bump. Get on board, train is leaving soon. Get the kitchen pass, develop a sick uncle you gotta go visit, whatever. There will be snow flying and cold soon enough. What particularly makes these routes good is that Loudoun County treats their dirt roads with nasty chemicals to keep the dust down. Otherwise, the first three bikes have a good ride, the rest choke on dust. Not the case here. A good ride for all skill levels.

The only thing that surpasses the route is the outstanding company you will be with.

Location:
A) on RT 50 at Aldie Mill

OR

B) 10 minutes west if I can find a parking lot
near 626 in Middleburg.

Hmmmm, if I can go for maybe 2 hours I could probably swing this. Have to work that day.

The finely tuned excursion itinerary (not) calls for Lunch in/near Leesburg.
There are lots of paved exits from there.

You guys have a great ride, have to bail on this one. Work's getting in the way of my life!

Yes, we are still riding on this Sunday August 21.

Meeting up at 10 AM at Aldie Mill which is on Rt 50, one mile west of Rt 15.
There is trailer parking west of the Mill in an adjacent lot.

To recap;
This will be a nice ride in some of the prettiest country on the east coast.
You will not be bored; we got dirt, gravel, clay and rock thru pastures and woods
The route will be mostly county dirt roads with at least 1 water crossing.
We will break for Lunch and are usually done by 4 PM but early exits are easy.

Let me know if you are coming so we can hold till we see you.

Great Day Gentlemen !

We'll try to do better next time but I don't know how.
OK, we'll work on dust control.

We started with 17 riders, had 7 for Lunch at 2 PM

We enjoyed the rain and lunch from a porch in Leesburg, with dry parking too.

Finished up in cool air and dry streets with 6 KLRs in Middleburg at 4:30.

Still don't know how we lost and then found half the ride. Good job Trader!


We are putting together a plan for the next one in September.

Late notice but Saturday, tomorrow, I 'm thinking a little cruise down Fort Valley Rd.,out southwest of Front Royal.
Maybe not too much dirt but I wanna get to know the neighborhood.
Send a note if you wanna join up near Front Royal around 10 AM.
I'll be starting from Leesburg.

I'll check on the Apple House in Linden for lunch, but it being Labor Day it might be PB&J's from a bag. (theres' a story there but I'll save that for another time.)

Forecast calls for a mixed bag and so it goes.

10 AM is my pick but if 9 or 11 is better, shout it out.
an early start might beat the weather.

Unfortunately, kitchen pass negotiations were not initiated soon enough to allow my presence; another time, perhaps!

Typically, vatrader01 might be involved in such an excursion. If he shows up, please give him my best regards and report back (just interested and concerned about his welfare). Pat's the kind of rider I'd want to ride with; he contributes most positively to these events. (How? Taking the initiative, serving as road-guard, traffic director as useful for safety and convenience; helping out other riders every way he can, etc.; and--the guy's LOTS of laughs!)

I exchanged notes with twohawks and he said he'll keep calling but not to worry...Pat leaves the web/planet occasionally but has always returned.

Anyone up for a ride on Sunday??? Looking for someone who has some good ideas of where to go, something with a bit of gravel perhaps. I haven't done any fun riding for awhile. Should be clear and a tad nippy.

OR, if anyone is off Monday and wants to ride, I am up for that as well.
