: Windscreen Options?
WC417 08-15-2011, 11:00 PM Hey fella's I'm wanting to buy a different windscreen for my 08 KLR. I would like to have something that is much taller than stock but not so tall it looks out of place. I like the Zero Gravity Sport Touring screen I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a good tinted screen that would block the majority of wind off of me. I'm 6' tall and would like the wind to just roll right over my helmet if possible. I also have a windscreen extension mount that the guy that had the bike before me made. Here's a pic of one like it.

Also if anyone has any pics of the Zero Gravity Sport Touring screen I'd like to see some of the entire bike with that screen
planalp 08-16-2011, 07:01 AM I use one of these and really like it. Not quite as "stylish" as some of the other screens, but works exceptionally well. One drawback is that it can interfere with your stock guards depending on how you position it.
One big plus is that you can take it off in about 30 seconds with no tools if you want to go off-road without fear of breaking it. Wind/bug/rain protection is outstanding for me at 6'4".

Haha it took me a minute to find the sheep lol
I found a few more pics on other forums after I posted this and I really like it. I think I'm going to order me one. I've read the dark smoke is hard to see through is this true?
Here are the pics I found:
The pics of the green KLR also shows the mirrors that I ordered for my bike recently mentioned in the Mirror Swap thread:

Here is one on a blue KLR just like mine!
sardog1 08-16-2011, 08:26 PM WC417, at 6' tall, you shouldn't have to worry about looking "through" the smoke tint when riding. My opinion is that you should be able to comfortably look over the top of the wind screen in a normal seated position.
I have the Cee Bailey's Sport 20" in dark grey tint and really like it.

steferf 08-17-2011, 04:31 PM How do these windscreens affect gas mileage? Noticeable?
sardog1 08-17-2011, 08:28 PM I haven't noticed a drop in mileage. In fact, you'd think that having a wind screen blocking the majority of wind from hitting your body would create less drag thus giving you improved mileage. Just a thought... I'm no engineer... but I do clean up their mistakes at work! Engineers are my job security!

I agree, the less turbulance caused around your body give the air a much smoother passage causing less resistance and less drag.
PHBiker 08-18-2011, 10:36 PM Resistance to wind = the Ballistic Coefficent x Rho X Velocity Squared
I don't know what that has to do with the thread, I just thought I'd throw it out there and see if anyone bites.
Actually, if you feel less buffeting, you are probably generating less drag. I have not found windshield nirvanna yet, but the extension from Happy Trails interests me a great deal.

WC417 09-11-2011, 12:25 AM Well, I ordered me a smoked ZG sport touring screen and it should be here late next week. I will post pics as soon as I can!
rickyp3278 09-11-2011, 01:00 AM post pics and give a report as soon as you can! I want one too...I'm debating between that and the Double bubble.
varley45 09-11-2011, 01:05 PM I like that extension, I could use one of those in flat black. I have the Sport Touring I'm 6' 5" The air hits me in the face shield so I'm sure it would just about clear your helmet WC417. Enjoy it!
Germton 09-11-2011, 07:10 PM I have the ZG double bubble and love it . It looks good in smoke and my mileage picked up. Three tanks 59 mpg.
jokerlp 09-11-2011, 08:22 PM I know you already ordered but i still wanna put my input. I ordered mine from cee bailey's and its the +7 and it is alright looks pretty good not to big and ugly. it actually doesnt work as well as i expected. The air-flow hits the top of my helmet which i wear a dual sport helmet so it hit the visor thing at the top and that thing rattles and shakes and vibrates so im going to have to angle it down even more by drilling a little more into the slot.
WC417 09-13-2011, 12:00 AM My ZG sport touring screen came in today! Much faster than I expected! I ordered from Buster's Dirt Shop (http://www.bustersdirtshop.com/product.php?productid=10679&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Froogle) last thursday afternoon and it shipped out friday morning from Anahiem, CA by USPS and was on my front porch here in Jonesboro, AR by noon today!
I opened it and installed it immediately, I really like it! I rode about 50 miles with it today and it worked very well. I felt like there is just one sweet spot where the air just flows right over my head but it's really not that comfortable to stay in that one spot the whole time I'm riding. So, I'm thinking about using my extension bracket even with the larger screen it doesn't look the best but I want to see how well it works. I held the new screen up with the extension still on just to see how it looked before I took the extension off and I posted pics below. What do you guys think looks wise? For now I'm only using the ZG Sport Touring.

I think it looks fine either way. If it works better with the extension, I'd use the extension; no point in having the shield on there if you have to contort yourself to find a certain spot where the wind doesn't hit you and you're uncomfortable as a result of doing so. It looks good. I like the smoke.
rickyp3278 09-13-2011, 10:22 AM thanks for lettin us know! Be sure to give another report within a few weeks/months of riding!
jokerlp 09-13-2011, 10:53 AM looks good!!!
