I'm thinking about adding some small, cheap fog lights to my bike. I seldomly ride at night, but its a KLR so you gotta add stuff to it. :)
Is the stator OK to run 2-55w bulbs?
Anyone have some pics of the lights you've added?
Thanks!

I am thinking of picking some up at the auto parts store myself….. I find it hard to believe that you and I are the only 2 out there with this idea.

I don't think there's enough headroom on the stator to run two 55w bulbs.
Check out planalp's thread where he installed one lamp (http://www.klrforum.com/showthread.php?t=11511&highlight=light).
Paper installed some LED lights (http://www.klrforum.com/showthread.php?t=10732&highlight=led+light).

There's about 100 watts available without the high beam on.
I have a voltage monitor (http://signaldynamics.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=56&category_id=14&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=77&vmcchk=1&Itemid=77) on my 08. When I have my heated grips and electric liner on (approx. 75 watts total) the high beam trips the monitor. Kinda sucks cause in the winter it's cold and dark!

I had some doubts about running a circuit separate from the ignition because of the potential of inadvertently running the battery down, but I found last night when I was sitting along the side of the road in the pitch black it was nice to have a source of light with less draw on the battery than sitting there with the ignition and all lights on.
I suppose the headlights aren't the only thing run off the "ignition" circuit that's hot only when the key is on, but I didn't want to be limited to that. I wanted a simple circuit wired directly to the battery and not depending on anything else. Had it been a headlight failure last night, I could have easily switched on my backup and continued home, although at a slower pace and probably not "legally."
I figure the only way my battery would be discharged would be if I forgot to turn the backup light off (not very likely, because I only turn it on from time to time to test it) or if somebody walked by the bike and even noticed the switch and then had the inclination to turn it on and I find that scenario very unlikely.
All in all, I'm happy with the totally-separate circuit for my auxiliary light. Just something for you to think about when it comes to powering the lights.

If I do it. I will run directly off of the battery
