Kill the KLR250 Forum.

Keep the forum concise and easily managable. Too many sub topics get confusing.

I'll throw some designs your way for some stuff to sell. Ask anyone in here, they'll tell you I can make cool stuff and money for your forum. But on the last site my cool stuff was shot down because the owner wanted to handle everything himself, and didn't want to defer any responsibilities to anyone else. He did end up using the header I designed, but that was about it. I never aksed for money or conpensation, nor do I expect any. I just want to help build the site's brand identity. Since that's what I do all day long for a job.

Give me admin powers and a I can keep things in line since I'm on all day long. I can help you with content and layout. I can and will squash any quibbles or profanity as soon as it occurs. I know this group well, and I'm highly respected on the other site. I don't stir the pot and I always try to keep an even keel.

I'll see about dropping the 250 section, I have noticed there wasnt any activity there.

The problem promoting other peoples items through a site is that you have to assume some responsibility if the buyers become unhappy. Thats what the section for selling items is here, for people to sell items on there own without any tie to the actual site ie advertising on the site etc.

I work in front of my computer all day, and after hours I have my sign making business where I cut decals and make signs and such. If the site continues to grow I am going to have to appoint at least one moderator. But right now I have some other things to finish up around here before I get around to chosing a mod.

I would like to see a trip reports forum added. I really enjoy reading others adventures. KLR people go to all ends of this planet.

Changes made to the 250 section, has now become a travel section.

I also have a sign making business. Well, we're a print shop, so we do a little of everything.

Anyway, I wasn't meaning that I'd sell anything... I'd just design stuff and pass it along to you and you can do with it what you'd like. The other site wouldn't take anything from anybody. And the designs that came forth were out of MS Paint or something. I'm an award winning designer, and I'm offering my talents for free to help promote the site. That's all. Otherwise, yeah I'll link to my own stuff and take responsibility for that aspect. (if I ever get around to it.) I've just got lots of good ideas that I'd hate see go to waste.

I'm sure we can work something out. I am selling a ton of decals on eBay right now, and it keeps me pretty buisy every evening. I have some Ideas for some bike graphics I am working on but I am not quite finished so i cant show the off.

I also have building airbrush business. I airbrush real fire paint schemes

I love air brushing... I wish I had the talent to do that! Very nice!

I also did decals on e-bay... very time consuming. Not anymore for me. Now, I get to pick and choose what I want to work on. Much less stress.

I only sell about 10 designs regularly so I keep enough cut to handle the sales that come in, but then you have to package & address each one etc.

1.5 bazillion different smilies would be cool! :D

Or at least a few more than what we have here...That's one thing I always liked about advrider, they have some good smilies over there.

And avatars, maybe? Or is that a touchy subject given the recent shenanigans at the other place...?

Somewhere here I have adreesed that

Check out one of my other sites just for that purpose

www.topsmilies.com

I have a pretty good assortment there and they can be used on any forum.

Is there a chance of getting an Off Topic forum?

klr650

I had hoped the general chat section could be considered for off topic / nearly anything. If need be I'll create a section for it.

Paper you said Off topic form......did you mean to say a bacon form? Couldn't help myself.

I am sure now that the references made to bacon stem from the other site you guys visit, any chance someone could fill me in on it, I haven been to the other site, just wondering what its all about.

I don't know the history with it. But from what I've seen Paper likes bacon a lot. Kind of a running joke. Someone else could tell you more.

I used to be on that site quite a bit (until I was banned until the end of time - unjustly IMO - but it's not important) in any case... I never "got" the bacon stuff either. If I were to guess, it was probably a benign tool used to change the subject every now and then.

I dont mind a link in the sig, but companies offering items for sale on more than an occasional basis will have the option to either buy a text link or a 468x60 banner, at current market prices of course. I was thinking of putting up my banner ad for the LED light kits I sell, but I dont see it being a big hit on the KLRs do I will restrain myself.

Running joke pretty much hits it on the head.. I belong to a Motorcycle Gang.. (3 bike makes it a gang, right) We're the the BMC (breakfast meats club) and our "gang" has always had an issue as to which is the perfect breakfast meat.. I'm a bacon guy, and one other member is a sausage guy, and the third gang member won't say which he likes better, but I notice he orders bacon more often than not..

Anyway, I made the mistake of mentioning that I buy my bacon by the case at a local Amish Bulk food store... 2 reasons.. Fantastic bacon, and you get a 10% discount for buying it by the case.. I mean, why would you risk not having bacon on hand at all times??

Anyway, I was looking for an off topic for non motorcycle stuff.

I'm in the middle of refinishing a bunch of gunstocks and wanted to hit other gun nuts up on what they tend to use?? Heh heh.. Guns... Motorcycles.. Bacon.. Excuse me for a minute...

What sort of breakfast meat would Chorizo be considered? Sausage?

Yup.. I've had it a few times, and for some reason, I'm not a fan.. Weird.. A guy who'll eat squirrel, but isn't a fan of Chorizo..

Actually, I'm not against advertising per se. I do work in advertising. It's the trend I've noticed on other boards (not just motorcycles) where a rep of a company will sort of become embedded in the community first, gain trust, etc... and their primary motivation is selling their wares.

Sort of reminds me of when I was in Morocco traveling. VERY good con-men by the way. Guess centuries of camel and carpet trading produces wicked salesmen! But, in Morocco.. the salesmen will not even mention his wares. Small talk, find something in common, hang out, vist the family, etc. after a week or so you'll lulled into thinking you've got a new pal. Then WHAM! You both happen to end up in the "uncle's" silk carpet shop and the pressure is put on. You start feeling uncomfortable not helping out your new pal's family, etc.

Anyway.. that's the gist of the practice.. and I've noticed the same technique becoming more and more prevailent in forums.

Again, nothing wrong with promotion, advertising, etc. But, I think it should be clear.. ie. a banner, or possibly a note in a sig.

I haven't found much Chorizo in the States that I care for.. but deep in Mexico it can be quite delicious. The chorizo in Texas is either WAAAY too "greasy orange" or merely average spicy sausage they try to pawn off as real Mexican chorizo. The best stuff is in the interior.. not anywhere close to the border. That stuff is just waaaay too greasy like the Tex-Mex variety. but get some in Oaxaca for instance... muy sabroso!

I dont mind a little promtoing but at some popint it has to cost to advertise.

Done - It is not as nice as some forum software, but you will be able to see how many people are in each room now.

Thanks

I'll keep the avatars in mind, but for the moment I am going to leave them off, I may create site related avatars to use at some point.

I dont mind sig pics as long as the are within reason size wise.

A mere suggestion... I think it'd be cool if manufacturers of mods and parts aren't allowed to use the site to promote their wares. If they want to buy banner ads, that's different. But IMO it seems a little disingenous for them to "blend in" to the group while simultaneously promoting their parts. etc.

Hmmm...that depends on how it's done. Some of the smaller shops are enthusiasts who have something to contribute in general to the forum. In my experience, there usually isn't an alterior motive.

The main thing is that they disclose that they manufacture/sell a mod and/or part during a thread if the topic of discussion concerns it...for example, if someone sold a rear rack for the bike, they should disclose that if the thread is about luggage racks. I wouldn't expect them to disclose it if the thread is regarding tire selection.

Yeah.. as long as there was disclosure so that you knew of any potential bias. Perhaps disclosure in a sig?

Could there be a way to view posts from the newest post, rather than starting out at the very first post in a thread ?

Hello all.

I'd like to see the regional forums here. It may have already been mentioned. It was much easier to deal with local rides, tech days, etc, without filtering through the general discussion forums.
