Our forum! Wheeee!

Gonna have a mini tech day at my place this saturday the 21st in the morning. I'll be adding some stuff to my wife's KLR and Patsue will be coming by for a doohickey and whatever else. Come on down if you want. If you need directions let me know.

Will probably take a ride in the afternoon, but don't know what or where yet. Weather might decide that.

Stay safe.

Nick, I wrote in your intro post, also. We'll be wrenching a bit. I'll get my bike back togethr, Laurie will get some progressive fork springs, hand guards, doohickey, maybe foot pegs. Maybe some other stuff like the brake line. If Patsue shows up, we'll do his doo.

Woohoo! I found you guys, and I can post! Still want to get together for a ride up phantom canyon, etc. this fall Nick! We just got back from Mexico, and I'm wrenching on a 1977 yamaha DT100 Enduro for Tami to learn to ride. It's a sweet bike, but I'm working out electrical gremlins.

I hope to be active on this site- I know you guys thought you were rid of me ;)

Hi Duke , glad to see you found us, welcome, Sgt marty had a tech day scheduled yesterday but the weather turned bad so it was a no go for me.
I'm hoping to get some more riding in, let me know what you are up for, ok?

Nick- how long of a ride is it from your place, up Phantom Canyon and down Shelf road (or vice versa). How would it be for a day ride from here and back, with these shorter days?

nick

Hayduke,

I'd guess the round trip from Florence up Phantom Canon and down Shelf rd or vice versa would be about 4-5 hours including an hour lunch stop in Cripple Creek. If you got here 9:30-10:00 you should be back on the road to Salida by 3:00-3:30. I think these times err on the side of more time than I expect it to take.

Tami is doing well. I just heard from Mark (our British friend). Tami and I rode with he and his wife Daisy down to Copper Canyon (Mexico), and they continued south toward S. America. They were in Puerto Vallarta today, headed for Tequila tomorrow.

I also sent an email to Robb Pennie (Highcountry?) - he was at the Tech Day in Sept. He was wondering where we all went. Said he'll be checking in here.

Take Care!

Hayduke, You still want to do the Phantom/Shelf run? Ahh, when the blizzard blows over of course.

nick, if she is around when you do the ride, Laurie wants to do Phantom Canyon/Shelf Road too. I'm up for it again.

Depends on when, and if there is snow on the road. I doubt that Laurie is ready for snow yet. But, we'll see.

Yes! I probably can't do this week, but maybe next if the weather holds. Do you think snow will linger on that route? My buddy Mark wants to come, if you don't mind riding with a beemer... ;)

BTW, my only chances to go these days would be Mon, Tues, or Wed. Marty, can you swing a weekday?

Hayduke,Sgt Marty,

The snow is definetly a deciding factor (along with mud) I'd hate to slide off into a 500ft canyon!! I'm, as you know, available anyday the conditions look good. I'll try and get a road condition report for next week. Anyone you like is good enough with me for the ride. Marty, the Mrs. is more than welcome, plus your ability to repair the space shuttle with duct tape and bailing wire make a bike ride very comforting. ;)

Lets let it melt for awhile, then check it out. It's supposed to get pretty warm down your way this weekend.

I can usually do Mondays, unless I have a subpoena. Laurie is 'hit and miss' with some weekends due to being out of town a lot lately.

nick, when the road looks okay to you, let us know.

What!! The slide is part of the adventure! Hell, people in Disneyland pay for that kind of Pucker factor. Well, good luck, wish I could go, but weekdays are almost always out for me. Don't forget the camera's!!!!!

yessssssssssss...

;)

Since I already took Friday night the 13th off work, I'll go for a ride with a buddy around ColoSpgs on Saturday the 14th. Maybe do Gold Camp Road again (where Laurie crashed last month), and maybe come back on Shelf Road. Depends on conditions.

I'll still plan on being with you doods in Salida on the 15th, too.

So there!

So I just joined the forum after picking up my first KLR. I'm interested in connecting with folks in the area for some tech-time.

I'm going to work on my saggy suspenders, check to see if this thing needs the doo and maybe some routine stuff like servicing bearings.

I realize this month is booked for most, but I'd love to tag along when a tech day comes up.

Cheers!

I'm in the Longmont/Boulder area. Would love to get together with some tech. minded folks to do the doo on my '09 - no hurry... Already put on heated grips, an aux. socket for plugging in my electric vest, and a Thermo-Bob (what a difference that makes in this cold weather!), as I'm riding all winter long.

good to hear it.
i'm working on finding the right combo of handlebars, brushguards, etc. for mine, as well as beefing up forks.

how you like the new gen. klr ?

I put Maier ATV Woods Pro Aluminum Hand Guards and covers on my '09 KLR. They're a perfect fit. The guards curve outward for a bit before bending around to the front of the handlebars, thereby providing ample room for the clutch lever. I put the handlebar end weights back on the ends of the bars with the OEM bolts and a large washer to fill in the hole in the end-weight. Had to eliminate the little metal loop that guides a couple of on the left side of the handlbar. It is no loss, as the Hand guard bracket steers the cables in the right direction anyway.

what part of CO are you guys in. If I want to ride with people I have to go to AZ where my father-in-law lives. I'm stationed at Ft. Carson here in Colorado Springs so if you guys are ever down this way I would love to meet people to ride with

I took a nice ride between Denver and the Springs a week ago... Hwy 67 between Hwy 285 and Cripple Creek. Good times!

I'll try to send a shout out before I ride next. with this weather, it might be a while.

Anyone want to ride tomorrow. Weather is supposed to be pushing 50 in the springs.

I don't think I'm gonna get out on the bikes at all this week, until I get all moved in, that is. I was able to at least get some lighting installed in the shop today, so I'm getting closer to being able to dig into the bike some more.

this cold weather has been good for reading up on a bunch of mods and stuff. I'm thinking about plunkin' down the coin for the hyd clutch, and I've been reading a lot about the tubeless ( TU-BLISS ) kit for spokers. The availability date seems to keep getting pushed back, so it may be another month before the one for the 21" hoop is available.

I'm taking next Friday off, so if the weather is good, perhaps we could do some riding then? you say you're in CO Springs? any idea what shape Gold Camp rode is in right now?

I'm off next Friday. I've ridden Gold Camp a few times. I like Old Stage to Cipple Creek then take Phantom Canyon down to Canon City then back up 115 to the springs. It's a pretty good road. I'm actually headed that way right now.

I just picked up my 2005 KLR the other week.
This is my 1st dual sport bike,I've had motocross and cafe racers before so I thought I'd mix it up a bit with the KLR.

Not sure how active this thread is but the season is upon us now.

I live in Boulder and like to ride fairly aggressive

I can't wait till the high country is thawed out.

I'm new to the KLR group and just felt the need to post somthing.

Congrats on getting the KLR, I have had mine since may and love it. If there any folks in the Denver area that want to do a ride on a weekend I am game, or in the springs area for that matter.
