Unlike designs from Leatt and Alpinestars, Omega chose a suspension-like chassis that first tries to attenuate impact energy then stop it completely in the event of a head-first crash. The load-bearing surfaces are different too, instead of the spine and sternum, this neck brace distributes impact onto the ribs, reducing the chance of thoracic and sternum injuries in the event of a lawn dart type of crash. The Omega K1 does not sit directly against the shoulders either, but rather “floats” above them which reduces the risk of clavicle fractures. Omega claims this design is less likely to cause the same sort of injuries associated with other, rigid neck braces that rely on the spine and clavicles to absorb impact emery.
