....Ok, Ok, still, and I'm giving Kawasaki a lot of slack here, having owned several of there and other fine machines, I'm amazed if something this simple could be changed in the base design, why they haven't fixed it. I mean, seriously, there must be over a million or so KLR600/650's out there in the world, for a few cents of fixes they wouldn't do it ?!? Well I am going to upgrade it as I really like wrenching on my bikes almost as much as riding them. So who makes the best Doohickey upgrade ??? I'm sure that will bring out another rash of posts which is, afterall, the point.
Cheers (nope don't smoke nothing but fine cigars, but not at this time 'o the year!) John aka RF_R_US

eaglemike has the parts...the only parts that matter. Even upgrades for the upgraded parts that will upgrade your KLR.

Been involved in either 8 or 9 Doohickey changes.. 3 failures in that bunch, all on bikes with less than 5K on them.. 1 broken doo, 2 broken springs..
Mine was fine at 4K, but there wasn't much spring action left.

RF, go to tech days and watch the upgrades. The lever has always been substandard and does not fit well and is made of poor material. The spring(s) is/are crap.
There was a recent tech day in San Diego and a Kawasaki representative showed up unannounced (sort of). The representative was overwhelmed with all of the problems, impressed with the aftermarket parts, and could not believe EagleMike was a oneman show. This is the first time that Kawasaki attended a tech day, ever (that we know of). Eyes Wide Open for Kawasaki, 2010! Kudos Kudos Kudos

...tech days ??? I saw that mentioned but haven't seen the link or where they are at. I'm actually amazed at how few bike events are here in Colorado, not even the international motorcycle show, jeez.

Oh, I should do that as doing valves, etc., whatever (although I'm still pondering the Racetech cartridge fork kit for the Vrod,....hmmm, need to get to that). That would be fun, as I only have one buddy here in Colorado that is still an ex-racer, gear-head from Californication. Jeez, if it weren't still snowing outside I wouldn't be on the 'puter....
Cheers, John

OK, OK, so the peer pressure is on me, and there is STILL snow in my driveway :-( Going to do the "doo", add the subframe upgrade, and a fork brace from Eaglemike1. The man has done his homework! I'll take pictures of the upgrade though as us engineer types just have to document everything you know. Thanks again everybody for all the advice and YES, I'm having a ton of fun buying upgrades for the '96 vs. having spent the bigger bucks for the '09 or '10 model. Yep, wrenching, at least in winter, is half the fun with a new toy!
Cheers, John
