Default Backrest for 2012 KLR650?

Hi,
I am new to this forum. I am going to buy a new 2012 KLR 650 and wanted to know if anyone is aware of a backrest for a passenger that can be fitted to the existing seat/rack or any aftermarket seats/racks/backrests combos?
Also any opinions on the new KLR 650 (good or bad).
Thanks for any info.

Hi Ranger, and welcome to the forum!

On the backrest, your best bet may be to look into a decent top case, as they usually have a backrest either built in or as an option.

Here's a picture of a typical one, the Givi E52 with optional backrest:

You'll want to Google around a bit to see what looks good to you. We've got some members with top cases; hopefully they'll chime in with some recommendations.

The 2012 is, to my knowledge, unchanged from the previous three or four years. Good bike and the only known issue of any consequence is going to be the spring that allows the counter-balancer adjustment lever to move. We have several threads discussing the Gen 2 counter balancer lever/spring issue. If you're new to the KLR universe, this is the "doohickey".

Tom

Do a web search for klrdash.com, they are getting ready to release an adjustable backrest for driver or passenger.

Default Backrest

Thanks, just what I was looking for. Would be great if they offer it in anodized black as well.
