Best or least expensive?
Shinko 705 ($60-70) or Avon Distanza ($79-80) tires probably give the best bang for the buck
Metzler Tourance and ($150+) tires are probably the best and longest milage but cost a lot more.

I REALLY liked the Avon Gripster. Consider this though. I also thought I would be riding pretty much on the road exclusively. Didn't turn out that way. And the tires I have now are pretty much as good as the gripsters on the road. And when I do go offroad, it is actually fun, not terrifying.

90/10 situation is perfect for my favorite tire, when money isn't a consideration..

Michelin Anakee..

Stick like glue, wet or dry, and wears very well, too.

I've gone offroad with them, and they do OK, but where they shine is the road with very good life and a tire with grip (wet and dry) that can't be beat.

Well, maybe they can?? I see there's Anakee 2's out now.

Yeah, everyone has an opinion. I really like it best when I can go to a MC store that has tires in stock to see the tread, but then I'm a 60% off road rider so my choice is far more tire oriented.

I put a pair of Michelin T66 tires on a few years ago. They were great on hardtop and raised my mileage. The problem came when I did want to do dirt and gravel and I changed them out for Mefo Explorers. The mefo gives good tread life and if you venture onto a wet muddy road they are very good.

Kenda 761's aren't worth a sh!t on wet pavement in my opinion (not that it ever rains in NW Oregon). In the "Gateway to Death Valley" maybe they are more capable.
