2nd gear not meshing

Hi, anybody have advise on what to do when going into 2nd hits neutral and wont shift out of neutral to 2nd, takes much pressure and at 3rd or 4th attempt shifts, sometimes pops back into neutral, at times shifts fine but not often.

Could you give some more info, year of KLR, how many miles, any recent work on it?
I would start with inspecting the shift lever for cracks.

70,000km or +/-43,000miles
recent work, Doohickey
Gear lever in good condition, and not loose. First thing I checked.

Cant think of anything that would affect shifting doing the doohickey upgrade....anyone?

Is the clutch fully disengaging?

Have you dropped it lately on the left side? Reason I ask is, on a bike I once had I did, and jammed the gearshift lever causing a shift fork in the transmission to bend and not allowing full gear engagement.

Gray-haired riders donít get that way from pure luck.

Bent shift fork sounds like. Have to split the cases to fix it.
