The Doo, Valves and a ???

As stated in an earlier post i am picking up a 95 KLR, I am not certain if the Doo has been done or the last time the valves were adjusted. The bike is in damn near perfect cosmetic condition and runs like a champ. I will speak to the seller before finishing the transaction, but unless something drastic happens, it will be in my garage soon.

The Doo on my last KLR was done prior to me getting it, and the maintenance was done on a regular basis as well. I believe this to be the case with this one also.

My question is, I recall that there were Tech days and they were a place to take your bike for needed maintenance and misc repairs. Are these Tech days still done? And if so, anyone know when the next one will be? Or where can I check to find out?

Obviously I want to do the Doo if it has not been done, but I have not it and would be unsure of myself. The other is the shim and bucket valves, these are not something I have done either, I had a friend who knew how, help with the valves before, but now he has moved on. I am sure I could do the valves, I've adjusted many on my old bikes and as most know those are easy.

Any input or advice would be appreciated, thanks.

As a point of reference I am in the Central Valley of California -Fresno area.

Hey Mark, yeah, Tech Days are happening all the time. Check the forums, including this one, and they will be announced. There is usually a section for upcoming tech days. There is on here.

This is a relatively small forum, so you might check the bigger ones, too (even though we're better).

Throw up a thread and there might be someone near you who will help you out, too.

Yea you should at least check the doo, the spring could be out of tension and if it is still stock replace with the Eagle Mike kit. If you need to replace just the spring use the EM torsion spring and you won't have to worry about it loosing tension.

How many miles on the bike? On my 08 at about 20k miles the valves had stopped loosing clearance, typical from what I've read. Checked them around 30k and they hadn't budged. As long as the bike starts right up and runs good I wouldn't worry about them.

Hey Mark,
I think you rode the South Coast Ridge Road with us a few years ago. Drop me a PM and we'll set up a time to come over and we'll check your valves and doo.

Awesome, I'll do that. I did not make that ride, right around the time I had my surgery. PM on its way.
