To ride or not to ride? (Doohickey question)

Hi all...I am really wanting to ride my KLR the next couple of days as the weather is supposed to be fantastic here in Ct. The only problem is that I think that the doohickey is broken inside the engine. I am worried that it may cause some engine damage. The bike has 27k miles on it (almost). Should I not ride it until I can replace the doohickey or should I just go ahead and ride until then? The bike makes a kinda clicking noise when I go hard on the accelerator. I think it's that spring or something. Might be valves out of adjustment. Not sure though.

Sounds to me like you may have answered your own question.

Fix first, ride later. At least then you will have something to ride.

If your chain becomes loose and gets jammed up around a sprocket the costs will be very expensive.......if it just simply allows a piece of the spring to float around and get jammed up in the chain, it could do the same thing or just eat up the spring bit and allow it to get lodged somewhere hard to find when it's time to do your DOO.

As for scouting for GLENN, sorry I'm here on my own and by my own free will......you should know me well enough that I'm not a normal mod for .net.....I speak my mind and get punished just like you would.....I have zero power compared to the other mods because of this. So.....you need to forget about trying to get me fired up here and the resulting issues.....not going to work. I have been a member here for a long time, a few years longer than you no???

Thread derail alert!

I'm glad to have you here.

Ironic choice of word "punished". Have you looked at the Banned from the other, new to this one thread?
It's going on 7 pages.

Well I got the doohickey itself and spring in today but now I have to wait for the puller, cam bolt, and cam tool because I didn't know I needed those before. Hopefully they will be in before next weekend.

Don't forget a 1/2" torque wrench bigg enough to set a 130foot pound torque on that rotor bolt.
