Surely I'm not the only one here that has no idea how to get to the speedometer??

Garage
If the speedo still works then the cable is not broken (said Captain Obvious).

The cable drives a worm gear that drives another gear, and another, and so on. One of the gears is either broken or skipping or there's something that engages/disengages that is stuck.

I'd say that you have nothing to lose by taking the thing apart and seeing what's up in there. The Gen I speedos are pretty easy to access; you should be able to get in there and peer around a bit.

Watt-man has some pictures of the guts on his website (http://members.cox.net/watt-man/Spee...libration.html and http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55564) and if Royce is around he may be able to give some pointers as to how to get one apart. I just stood there and held the screws. Here's Royce's page: http://woodnigma.blogspot.com/ which contains some beautiful stuff.

Thanks

Thanks, Tom. I was just trying to be lazy - haven't looked into getting the "dashboard" off as yet( to get the gauge out to take a look).

If you end up deciding to replace it, think Vapor from trailtech....I have been running one for 6 years now, an excellent unit with so many features and totally accurate all for around $120...just saying.....
