Which Pelican case would you get?

I am looking at the 1450 or 1500. What are your thoughts?
ps: any Southern Colorado riders around here? I live outside Durango...

I have a 1500 on the back of mine. I really like it and it holds enough and is almost bulletproof. If anything I wish it was a few inches taller, the rest of the dimensions are fine by me. Only cost me $20 I think

Pelican Cases

Greetings!

I've seen and read that most use the 1550. Check this link out!

Good luck!

I'm in the same boat.. can't decide between them. The 1450 is more understated and would fit, by far, the best of the two. The 1550 is pretty darn big and I haven't like the looks of it mounted in many of the KLR photos.

The KLR rack is 12" wide and 8" deep.

These are exterior dimensions and no foam prices

1400 is 13.5" wide, 11.5", 6" high - 3/4" over each side of rack.
$51.27

1450 is 16" wide, 13" deep, 7" high - 2" over each side of rack.
$67.23

1500 is 18.50" wide, 14" deep, 7" high - 3" over each side of rack.
$78.06

1520 is 19" wide, 16"deep, 8" high - 3" over each side of rack.
$83.50

1550 is 21" wide, 17" deep, 8" high - 4.5" over each side of rack.
$93.50

It would seem the 1520 is a good compromise between the 1450 and 1550. I was considering 1500, but after searching tonight have heard it's a tad on the small size.

I'm going to mock these up with some cardboard and see what I like.

I have a kolpin

I baught a nice Kolpin case from Bass Pro Shops and put it as my trunk. It kicks ass. You need to just drill and buy bigger screws. I lined up the holes from the Kolpin with the original KLR rack. It holds nicely.

The PO of my '05 used a 1520 that attached with two triangular plastic strips that mated with two more on the rack. A single pin (that was lockable) held it on. I adapted it to the large ebay rack. On and off in seconds.

I have a 1550 on the back of mine. I use bungee straps to hold it on the rack so that in the event of a falls the straps give a little and don't break the case if it was hard mounted. I carry alot of stuff in there and on top..

The 1500 works for me with enough room for tools, a decent air pump, couple extra tubes, etc. Bolt four stainless drawer pulls (Home Depot) to the lid. It makes for extra strap points and provides an extra spot to carry a camelbak, extra bag or whatever.
