Travel or not

Hoping someone can help me here:

Scenario- I was riding and I pulled over. I turned the bike off. When I went to start it again and put it into first gear the bike turned off. This has happened 3 times. On the forth attempt I put the choke up for a minute I lowered the choke and put it in first gear it worked.

Next day I started the bike and the same scenario as above. The only difference is the first day I had driven 80kms and the second day the bike was cold.

Does anyone know why this is happening or should I check for something. \

Kinda sounds like the sidestand safety switch is acting up. I would try bypassing it and seeing if the bike goes into gear without stalling. If that solves the problem you could clean/repair the switch or leave it bypassed if you wish. I prefer to have the safety switches all functioning, but I know a lot of people bypass them to prevent future problems. I think the choke thing might have been more of a coincidence than a contributing factor.

Here's a link to an excellent write up that Tom did on bypassing the switches:

+1 on what Stew said. Typical symptom of a safety switch...

Either the switch or the side stand is still down when you try to start out.
