One Last Chance for my KLR

I have had an ongoing ignition problem with my KLR for a few months. It randomly won't start, getting no spark, and I am at wits end. I have replaced/done the following-

bypassed all safety switches
new plug
New coil
disconnected and cleaned and greased every electrical connection
New Battery
New start button/kill switch

the last thing I can think of is the "igniter" or CDI unit. I've saved it for last because the thing is $266 dollars. Any other ideas before I buy this thing? If that doesn't do it, the bike will be parted out- I have lots of farkles I will put up for sale, and I'll probably look into a new XR650R or L (I ride mostly dirt anyway, and I am seriously frustrated with this thing- not sure I could buy another KLR and have a good attitude about it). Thanks for any and all suggestions....

That stinks to have an illusive gremlin like that. Have you PM'ed Eaglemike or KLRCary about your dilema. They are usually pretty good at trouble shooting via email or phone. Good luck!

I had posted before, and Eaglemike had a couple of suggestions but they didn't fix it. I can't trust the thing to ride anywhere even when it does start. It has also quit on me while riding a couple of times. I basically don't have a bike right now. Soooooo [email protected]#$ing frustrating!!!

I had a KLR 600 that did the same thing. It had a real weak spark, but I could dump a little gas in the cylinder and it would fire right up. Never did really figure out what it was though because my Dad wrecked it (broke his collar bone) before I could fix it.
How was your trip to Mexico?

The shortest distance between two points is a damn shame.......

I rode Broke Back mountain, and my a$$ is killing me.....

I think I'm gonna get a new CDI unit. If that doesn't do it, a KLR bonfire may be in order....

Mexico was awesome.

When are you going? Or are you back? I got catching up to do....

Leaving tuesday morning. I'm flying down to Dads, gonna ride his RT Beemer to Baja, then ride it back up to Spokane so he doesn't have to haul it up here in May.

No snow here. Pretty decent actually. It would be great to ride, but....

I did ride Tami's XT225 to work, though. I feel like a sasquatch on that thing

Have a great trip! And tell Bert hello.

Hey Daddyjoe,

I just wanted to say that's pretty cool of you to send that part to Hayduke. That kind of help is priceless, and makes people feel part of a great community!
