Trip indicator knob

Need to work on speedometer - how does this knob come off?

Probably been on there since "98 & looks like it just slips off. We held the shaft with needle nose pliars & couldn't twist it off, Wanna try to not break it....speedometer pegs the needle - lift it over the needle and it just pegs again. Any thoughts?

Jim

Before we get into that; what problem are you experiencing with your speedometer?

Maybe we can figure out a way to fix it without going into the instrumentation.

A common problem: the insidious BENT WASHER WINGS syndrome . . . affects both speedometer and odometer readings profoundly, but . . . rather easily cured.

May your problem be as simple.

Added Speedo info

I edited while you were typing, Damocles. I didn't start this session out going for the speedometer fix. Was tracking battery from the ign sw. to the clutch sw & got under the faring - now everything is just hangin! You ever been there?

There should be a small set screw in the knob.

I've certainly made my own share of messes, Jim!

EDIT: Tried to clarify the wiring routing; the BLACK/YELLOW wire on one side of the clutch safety switch connects the battery negative terminal with the ignition switch; the other side of the clutch safety switch connects to a BLUE/RED wire connecting the starter circuit relay to the diode bank.

Third try; hope I have finally read the wiring diagram correctly!
