unique ? re Kick start on newer KLRs
Okay I KNOW the basic deal is that Kawasaki redisigned the clutch hub or something so nowadays even though there is still a plugged hole for the kickstart shaft in the R. side cover "it won't work" without putting an old clutch assembly in or something. But I have a very specific question regarding WHY EXACTLY it won't work nowadays. And please I am NOT looking for advice or flames...I ONLY want to ask just guys that actually KNOW what it is exactly about the newer parts that does not clear. Not just what parts need to put in rather than existing but what area of the new parts negatively effects what area of kick start parts. In other words is it just the return spring that won't clear the newer basket? I am guessing that. Might it only be the return spring hits the newer style (larger?) clutch basket?? Or is it something else?? I have specific reason to know exactly because I have an idea I might want to try ... I just need to know first what does not clear so I don't waste my time trying to feed oats to a dead horse. Again, to avoid flames and so on please only reply to this if you KNOW first hand what the deal is with the KLR clutch baskets over the years ... I seriously don't need generalized advice about not needing a kick starter or that I shouldnt mess with something like this or whatever ..seems to me there are always guys that just want to share expertise full of shoulds and should nots even with issues ... sorry but after years of being on various mailing lists I am just overly sensitive I guess ... not once bitten twice shy however, more like DOZENS of times bitten! LOL Thanks in advance to any of you true KLR gurus ... I mean the ones that even know many Kawi part numbers by heart LOL .. ya know the guys that can rattle off every change and what year, and every color scheme and graphics ...THAT'S who I want to hear from! LOL Dougie Quick PS If anyone has the old kick start parts ...even some high milage near worn out ones LOL ...I would buy em for experiment projecct I and will really appreciate it!
