Switching to Reserve Fuel

1999 KLR with 38,000 miles;

I used to have a range of 200 miles or more before I switched to reserve; now at about 130-150 miles I cannot switch fast enough before the bike completely cuts off! After I pull over, keep the valve on reserve, and turn the bike over 5-10 times it will start again. Then the bike will only take 2-3 gallons not the usual 4-5 gallons after switching to reserve. So it appears my bike is getting 50-55 mpg.

I guess it is vacuum or tank breather problem?

Thanks

Thanks for the link with pictures!!! It sounds like this will fix my early switch to reserve and the stumbling at high speed; another problem that I did not mention. I will let you know how it works.

Can someone post what the link above says. I'm lazy and don't want to sign on to another forum.

My '08 has these same gas issues.

Thanks,
Buz

You would be best served to sign up as the pictures are what you want to see.

I removed the orange valves? on monday night and ran 220 miles without having to switch to reserve, so hopefully this solved the problem. I don't smell gasoline in the garage, and I don't hear that funny squeaking sound like air slowing being let out of a balloon. Thanks for the help.
