14mm wrench

Is there any need for a 14mm wrench in the Gen 1 KLR tool kit?

Ain't the chain tension adjusting nut 14 mm, with a 12 mm locking nut?

DISCLAIMER: Only a question; I'm not sure, and . . . don't want to go out in the rain and the cold to find out, right now!

Since I'm in the shop at this moment both the adjuster and lock nut are 12mm ('08).

There is a 14mm in the OEM toolbag but a quick walkaround shows no 14mm fasteners easily visible.
*Edit. Found one.....banjo bolt at the front brake master cylinder, probably others.
**Edit again....I see you said Gen1, but this is posted in the 2008+ forum.

I was referring to Generation 1, myself. Two different-sized nuts on the chain tension adjusters, regardless; I think they are 14mm and 12mm, but . . . it's still raining!

Musta quit raining then !!!

I'd think the 12 & 14 would be a better setup. I had to hunt up another 12 to keep the adjuster from turning while tightening the locknut.

It stopped raining, indeed! Sunny, 50 degree F. high.

With compatible-thickness wrenches, a 14 mm and a 12 mm fit simultaneously, allowing lockdown at the precise increment.

After axle nut tightening, however, some play may develop in the adjuster; easily dialed out. The adjuster nut can snug up the adjuster after the axle nut is torqued, and locked with the lock nut. The ultimate gauge is the position of the index and the witness mark on each side; the adjuster merely sets the chain slack and prevents its future slippage.
