Dirt nap, gas cap, and maybe an o-ring

Last May I learned about an o-ring that would prevent my KLR from dribbling gas out the gas cap when it's taking dirt naps. Not a lot of gas comes out, but the tank bag (map holder) stinks of gas for a day. I left for a trip right then so I didn't order it right away.

When I got home from the tirp I looked at a parts fiche and ordered an o-ring that looked like it went where I had none. The ring that arrived didn't seem to fit where I thought it should -- on top of a metal tube sticking up. This was last summer, so retrieving information from the nooks of my memory works only half well, and retrieving the o-ring from the crannies of my parts piles works less well. I cannot find the threads or FAQ that said the problem is typically an o-ring.

But it's time to get this right. When my KLR is on it's side, gas comes out the top. Has anyone had this problem and solved it?

If not 'llI start poking around to see if I can form my own hypotheses. I know it has to vent when upright but stop venting when it stops being upright.

I've had this problem too. Wasn't aware of a fix. Thought they all did that. Search thy brain and give me an answer.

Grinnin and klr4evr,
The 'o'-ring you are referring to is a California emissions part.
It is actually kind of a 'little' upside-down, hollow, mushroom.
You must un-bolt the fuel cap to properly install it.
K part#, 92093-1030, $5.73 USD.

Normk, sort of made some recently, out of small fuel line.
Might be seen or discussed in 'Simple, Cheap and Easy', either on this forum or over on klr.net.

Someone here, Stomped on Normk's toes. He's a little 'miffed'!

Modify at "YOUR OWN RISK"!

Still riding my 1987 KL650-A1. 85,000+ miles & counting

Great, pdwestman.

I read "Simple, Cheap, & Easy and didn't find it. But searching on a part number does wonders for specificity and the thread at net came up.

Ron Ayer has that one for $3.48 and I need a couple of other things from them. I'm all for making things when I need to, but ordering this will be easy.

And, yes, I'll report after the next dirt nap if it keeps the gas inside. Not soon; it'd be an ice-nap today.
