Thank You Eagle Mike!
My 02 that I recently purchased was absolutely flat in the mid range. I did the $0.22 mods - drill slide, uni filter, shim needle. Plus cleaned the carb. Ran better but still no midrange. I have read about 1,000 threads on how to take to next level with jetting, shims, etc., and was not sure exactly which direction to go. I decided to order the KLX needle and jets from Eagle Mike.
I called him the day it arrived to double check on how to proceed. The bike had a Uni and I was just picking up a used Two Brothers exhaust. Mike said to keep clip at second spot from top, one shim underneath and brass washer on top. And go with 142 main. Plus remove snorkel - he definitely said not to do L mod.
WOW!!! I suddenly had mid range. The bike had a kick at about 3K when I cracked the throttle where before it had nothing. Like riding a new bike. I was actually having fun in the twisties. Felt like I was on a big supermotard. Started right up and there was no hesitation anywhere on the whole RPM scale. Had it up to about 65 and seemed like I still had throttle. Exhaust has a great sound - some may think it is loud but I am 60 and it didn't bother me - with earplugs. Just sounded faster!
So here is what I ended up with:'
KLX needle, second clip, one shim
Drilled slide - per $0.22 mod
Pilot 2 turns out
Not sure this is totally optimal but I don't plan on touching it anymore - it's a vast improvement over just the $0.22 mod. I now have a screaming (relatively speaking) mid range.
