Valve check at 6000?

My bike just rolled over 6000 miles on the odo this week. I looked through my manual and discovered it’s due for a value check. Unfortunately, I have the mechanical ability of a small farm animal which means I will not be tackling this job alone. (As a side note, I purchased the bike from Daddyjoe and he checked the valves at 2286.) So here is the question, should I hold out for a tech day or take a chance on the stealership? I do not have a have a lot of faith in the local dealer but I don’t want to damage the bike by waiting months for a tech day. Advice please.

Run it. Shoot for a tech day by 8,000 miles.

valve adjustment

As far as I am concerned, if the valves were adjusted when you said they were, there is no need to check them until 12000, 15000 etc. Valves do not go out of adjustment every 5000 kls, unless there is a problem. Just bought my 94 with 44000 kls & the valves were at the far end of ok. Did not look like it had ever been adjusted before. Depending on your yearly mileage, I wouldn't bother checking them more than every 10,000-15000kls. Just change the oil when it's due. Most important!

Thanks, Russ
