Sub-Frame Hex bolts

I am replacing my subframe and the Hex(Allen) bolts are torqued on very tight. Any suggestions on getting them loose without striping them.

Thanks

Heat them up with a plumber's torch, hand held. You might also spray them down with some PB Blaster for a few days and let the liquid penetrate the threads.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

+1. The upper ones are in there with red loctite. Very hard to get out. I had to drill mine out after they sheared. I did the drill through upgrade.

Good luck.

Should I automatically replace the subframe bolts? I am easy on the bike for the most part and ride mostly the street. Where do you get them?

If you don't offroad much and don't haul much other than yourself the stock bolts should never be a problem if kept tight. You can go to the local hardware store to find higher grade bolts for a few dollars. Remember loctite is your friend.

What size bit and bolt should I look for? Hardness factor?
Thanks.

If they have loc-tite then yea, you need to heat them to loosen them. A Walmart propane torch is fine for this and cheap. Use grade 8 bolts on the lower subframe and buy one of the frame drill-thru kits. Get the one with the drill guide. I forget who sells that one.

If you use blue locktite there is no need for a torch. Don't want to have to carry a torch on the bike any time you need to remove a bolt or screw.
