clutch troubles

Too nice today. Couldn't resist getting the bike out. 06 just turned 900 miles. I just bought this thing, haven't put 30 miles on it. The clutch cable broke at the engine. I have never been into a clutch before. The shaft it connects to will slide right out. Do I have more troubles than just a new cable?

It felt normal until it broke. It did not pull hard. I put no extra force on the clutch when it broke, just felt a pop.

No, you are fine except for needing a new clutch cable, the shaft will slide out if the cable is loose from it.

No clutch cable

So DXKLR, if you have no clutch cable connected your safe to just connect another even though the lever can move left and right as well as up out of the motor? (have bought an engine to put in a buggy with no clutch cable) Previously Ive had the clutch lever slapped by the chain and when it lifted up in the motor the result was an engine full of bearings! (YZ490). Just wanting to make sure it doesnt require surgery before entering the buggy engine mounts....

The Lever at the engine case the cable connects too, is designed to be lifted up and out in order to remove that outter cover. The clutch has a nipple that the lever engages when the cable is pulled and that in turn is what engages to pull and release the clutch when the lever is pulled.

This link shows the lever being removed:

You better buy them by the case if your cable only lasts 900 miles.
Is someone using the clutch lever as some sort of exercise device?
