I was changing my oil and found this????

I changed my oil and this was stuck to my magnetic oil drain plug. What is this? It is like a tiny tin cup and smashed. Like the size of a pencil eraser. What is this KLR Doctors? A 9 volt battery and penny are next to it Thanks. I remember seeing this exact same question and similar pic somewhere on a klr forum so I know I am not the only one so I suggest everyone get a magentic drain plug.

It looks like the little button that goes on the end of the cam chain tensioner. That's the only thing I can think of.

I kept thinking a dowel for a side cover, but I don't think they have a bottom to them, just hollow all the way thru.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

Wait a minute, it's a '94? That might be the button end of the tensioner...I think that got changed with the '96 model. We don't see many older ones at techdays.

The schematic on Bikebandit does not show it well enought to tell if that is the button end or not.

Ron Ayers doesn't show that end of it either. It looks different in the Fiche from a 94 to an 05. Lot's of tensioners are like that, bonnet goes over the end and gets crimped on.

I posted in another forum and some think it is a piston wrist pin oil cap.

Looks like it, doesn't it? How would it get out if the crank wasn't broken? At a minimum the connecting rod big end won't get oil pressure anymore.
