Engine Surge

My 07' will not keep a steady rpm. At quarter throttle the engine will serge up. Beyond quarter throttle at highway speed no surge. Repair manual considers the pilot mixture screw to be the problem. Oh yeah the screw has a plastic plug that is in a difficult place to pull out. (starter in way) Any thoughts or suggestions on how to fix the surge and the easiest way to pull out that plug?

Here you go. Very easy to fix the idle mixture screw.. Turn it out about 2 1/4 turns from a soft seat position. That will fix the surge problem.

Mine developed a surge just like what you're mentioning.. I found my screw turned in all the way..
Ran it out just short of 3 turns and problem was solved.

Out of curiosity what elevation are you guys at riding at? I sit at 4000 and above and currently set at 3/4 turn. Responsive, yet a bit of surge at 3000 rpm.

I am between 2000 and 3000 depending on where I am. 3/4 is not enough, needs to be run on out another 1 3/4 turns. Normal is usually between 2 to 2 1/2 turns. Even some guys out in Co. have theirs turned out that far.
