Gas leaking from clear plastic hose on side of carburetor above Coasting Enricher

I have a 92 KLR 650 and it has been sitting unused for several years. I started it and I got a high fast idle and noticed gas leaking thru a clear plastic hose connected to the carburetor above the Coasting Enricher System on the kick stand side of the carburetor.I tapped the carburetor housing with the handle end of a screwdriver and the idle returned to normal and the gas stopped flowing thru this clear plastic hose to the ground.

What would cause gas to flow from this clear plastic hose??

Well I found a detailed picture of one of these KLR carburetors and it seems that the clear hose is the vent hose and that the gas was probably running out of it because the float was stuck and caused the gas to go past the seat into the vent tube.

Strange thing though--the bike wasnt running rich and there wasnt any black smoke. I thought that a stuck float would cause the bike to run rich.

Not always on a bike will it run rich, altho your fuel mileage would suck. Sounds like you need to take the carb apart and do a cleaning. That should fix any carb issues. Probably just some fuel gunk in there, and also make sure there isn't anything hiding in the jets.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.
