Rotella oil question

The previous owner of my bike used 15w-40 Rotella (not synthetic), so I decided to use the same. What I found today is called Triple Protection diesel engine oil. Is this what everyone is using in the KLRs? Just wanted to make sure before I change my oil tomorrow.

Oops, meant to put this in the 2008+ section, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

That's the stuff. Turn the jug over and read the back side.

See where it says that it meets JASO MA?

That's the Japanese motorcycle oil spec.

That's it? No more?

No open name calling, screaming and slandering of others' ethnic origins and marital status of parents?

Disappointing..... ;-)

I'm just wishing that a few owners would participate in my 'Laboratory Oil Analysis Thread'. http://www.klrforum.com/showthread.php?t=38962

And give us all some real evidence!
I'll suggest it be based on a 3000 mile run. But could also compare 5000 mile runs.

I truly believe that I am running a better motorcycle oil.

3,000 miles.....at my present rate that will require 3.75 years. I'll try to remember, Paul, but it would be good if you would remind me around June of 2018.

That's a very good project for which you deserve thanks. I think that someone did a fairly extensive Rotella oil analysis test report some years ago on one of the groups...maybe KLRwe've-banned-you.net?

I searched both here and 650.net for oil analysis reports.
The few I did find, I copied some of their info into my analysis thread.

Jeff Salines was the oldest, 7 reports, June '06 with 985 miles traveled - June '08 with his longest mileage, 2000 miles.

kelly1005, 4 reports. Sept. '08 - May '09, 2400-2800 intervals. Good readings.

LimitedSlip, 1 report. Aug. '12, Probably had air filter issues.

Johntripwire, 1 report. June '14, Probably had air filter issues.

Myself with 2 reports.

Our own brave leader Tom Schmitz, 1 report. Oct. '14, Air filter issue.

All in the interest of KLR science, of course. I've spent $25 + $3 postage for each report. We've all spent more, on more frivolous stuff.

I pulled a sample last wekend but couldn't make it to the Post Office. I think it's a 2500ish sample.

My objective is to get it in the mail this weekend before heading to Mesa.

Lake City was a hoot.
