Question Pelican cases and GPS's

I'm in the mood to do some mods to my 2008 klr.

What pelican case would you guys recommend for side cases and what do I need to buy to mount them?

And the GPS. I've found some really cool ones that are out of my price range. And suggestions on a limited budget? And O... I'd like to install a cigarette lighter to power my goodies is this difficult?

THANKS GUYS!

I have the Pelican 1430 cases on my 07, and love them. We fabbed up our own mounts, but you can purchase a good rack from KLR650.com, arrowheadmotorsports.com, TPImotorcycleparts.com and are usually a few on EBay from time to time.

As for a GPS, I just got my quest in last week and absolutley love it. I can map out a route on the software, transfer it over to the GPS unit and it will follow the route precisely. It has a ton of Points of Interest. The new version of MapSource 2008 comes with it. The price is great and this seller I am giving you a link to was awesome. I had the GPS in about 4 days. They are refurbished but come with a complete one year warranty from Garmin. I know Paper has used this type, not sure he still does, but he is the one that gave me the idea to purchase this type. It is waterproof and will run on battery for about 20 hours depending on your settings.
Here is the link for a current auction:

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..
Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

I'm using Pelican 1550's and a Pack Rat rack.

One of my co-workers just installed a Pack Rat rack and 1550's.. Very nice set up.. He also put a 1450 on as a top box.

I used to use a Garmin Quest, but my only issue was that it has a very limited amount of memory. 115mb, if I'm not mistaken. I had a solid, powered mount on my old Wing, and I let the GPS go with it.

I bought a Garmin 2610 and a 2gb Compact Flash card, and now have US and Canada loaded completely, with room to spare.

The 2610 was discountinued a year ago (because it doesn't have a MP3 player and Blue Tooth, like I cared) and originally sold for $800. I bought mine a month ago for $160, new in the box.

The downfall of the 2610 is that it's not battery powered, so you have to run juice to it when using, but since the KLR's have a spare, unused, switched, fused power connection in the fairing, I spent 10 minutes to wire it.

It's a bit bigger than the Quest was, and it's bigger than the Zumo, but it's waterproof and like I said, I have EVERYTHING loaded on it.. Not a big deal on the KLR, but I swap it back and forth with the new Wing, and wanted the freedom of not having to download maps on a regular basis..

Here's a couple pics of the new GPS. Mounts are all RAM mount equipment.
