Tire Wear

I just wanted to ask you guys what kind of tires I should go with on my next set. I just bought a new 08 KLR about three weeks ago and have put about 1000 miles on it. I use it for the 50 mile round trip to work each day and also take it down on the family farm on the weekends to do some off roading. I really don't want to compromise for street tires. It appears now that I might be able to squeeze 1600 mile out of the original set, which is very disappointing. Does anyone have any ideas on a grip or all terrain that can tolerate the road? Please help me out! Thanks!

MEFO's for what your wanting. The best all around 50/50 tire.

Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

Wow...only 1600?? Are they using a different stock tire now? I will admit pushing my stock tires beyond their true life, but the back still survived 5,500 miles and the front even more. I would guess 4,500 was the real limit on the back.

I run MEFO's and just now changing the rear with 7,000 miles on it. I could have probably squeezed another 1,500 out of it, but the tube messed up. I figured why have to mess with the tire again in such short a time and decided to put the new one on. I imagine the tire has reached it's true life though. Squeezing anymore would be just like what I did with the stock one.

1600 miles seems low for knobbies, let alone OEM's. It can vary though. My MEFO's have 2500 miles, look like they have 500.

These are the orginal tires that came on the bike. I believe they are Dunlop K750's. I could be mistaken but they appear to be worn over halfway.

So you guys like the MEFO's. Where would be the best place to buy these?

1600 miles does indicate very high tire wear. Tire pressure? I run a bit more than the book, 32/32 and have no problems. I'll get around 5k from the OEMs, but since I'm 90%+ street, I'm going to replace them soon with probably Anakees and add a larger drive sproket.

More info on many different tires used on KLR's
http://www.standoutnet.com/extras/mi.../klr650/tires/

You can buy Mefo's at these two places. Might be others, but I only know of these two.
