Part selection for service?

Just got my KLR, an '02 o.d. green with 5,600 miles. Before riding it alot I want to do some service and would like to have feedback on the part to use:

1) BRAKE PADS, I know some say braided lines are needed, others say relocate cailpers and bigger disc. I want to try good pads first, go from there if they don't get the job done.

2) OIL & FILTER, I am aware from being on other forums as a member (Harley, BMW) that this can be a can of worms. Basically what I'm looking for is dino or synthetic and which brand and weight.

3) SPARK PLUG, Which one and why.

4) REAR LIGHT, LEDS? or ???? Has anyone wired the turn signals to go on with the brake light?? This was popular at the time I got my Harley, sure draws attention from behind for safety.

5) VIBRATION DAMPNERS, either just for the mirrors ( I have seen several kinds) or for the handlebars which I image would effect the mirrors as well?

Thanks for any feedback you can provide. FYI riding will be streets, some highway and some dirt, I'm in SoCal (hot weather) and weigh 250. Thanks!

1) Don't fight it- your going the long route with just brake pads- Get the $50 SS line and be done with it. You'll thank me later.
2)regular motorcycle oil- change it regularly. OEM or HIFLO oil filter. Oil is cheap- engines are not
3) The regular oem plug and change it at recommended intervals
4)The LED panel from Dual star is great. The turn signals are changed by going to your local auto parts store and getting the dual filament sockets and bulbs-4 total 1157 bulbs. I have done all my bikes that way-zx11,klr650-hayabusa-gsxr1100 Google KLR650 FAQ for the best info. Pm me for anymore ????? I'm glad to help
5) I've got the dual-star mirror dampeners and it's better but not perfect. You are riding a thumper.

On the turn signals, I would need to change the sockets? How does that "mod" with new sockets/bulbs affect the electrical (more draw, same, less)? How much brighter?

Yes, the socket can be simply pushed out and the new ones pushed in. You just have to tap a + wire when ignition on or get it from the accessory plug located to the right of the headlight. I think it is brown in color. No detriment to the current electrical load. same as a regular small wattage bulb.
