European OEM Headlight Switch

Anyone know if the OEM European headlight switch will work, plug and play, on North American models?? Just looking at it I think it would.

My current OEM headlight switch went out on me on a recent trip. Had to jumper the wires together to have only a high beam light. Switch contact endplate is not very well supported or reinforced and ended up breaking. Likely a common issue with this switch.

I already have the aftermarket Afrika switch offered by most of the KLR vendors. I wasn't impressed with it's build quality and the push to cancel was not working very well so I went back to the OEM. Then it died on me.

Anyway this is a picture of it.

It looks like it will fit all the '87-'07 -A models.
That is the first one I've seen with Standard Choke position.

I do have a link but there's really no point sharing it if I can't find a way to get the switch shipped here from Germany. Costs vary depending what/where you are looking. Unfortunately my German is a little rusty. I've got prices ranging from about 40 - 140 Euro for what appears to be the same switch. at 40 Euro I would be in for sure.

As to the Afrika switch it didn't so much fail. I've had one for a number of years and the push to cancel doesn't work very well. I did take it apart today and cleaned and greased it but it didn't make much difference. I did put it back on my bike for now.

My OEM switch was what failed. The side plate with the contacts split down the middle. The plate doesn't really have any backing. If I can a new switch I'll try and rectify that so it doesn't happen again.

ABS brake modulators are shipped to me for repair fairly often from Europe so might ask someone to throw one of those switches into the box if I can find a decent price.
