Oil Changing

I changed the oil and filter for the first time last night in my 2007. I added 2.5L of 20w-50w oil, now the oil is over the site glass. After 2L it was at the bottom of the site glass, so I added the other .5L. How much of a problem is this. How much oil does it take to go from the bottom to the top of the site glass?
Also now with the 20w-50w I have had problem finding neutral.
Thanks

Much more knowledgeable guys than I, but - a little over shouldn't be a problem but it won't be much trouble to drip a little out at the plug (just slightly loosen it).

I don't think 20/50 should be a problem except maybe in hard cold. Oil weight, brand and type are always subject to opinion. I use 15/40 Rotella T in the KLR and Buell single w/no problems. I'd put some miles on it before I worried about different shifting.

20w50 is good for hot weather but a little too heavy for normal to cool weather. A bit over the site glass is fine. I put exactly 2.5 qts. not liters into mine and that puts it right at the top of the glass. 2.5 liters = 2.6 qts.
10W40 or one of the leading Dino oils such as BigIrone suggested works great. My preference is standard Castrol 10W40 oil. But oil is not a can of worms I am going to open up here. You just kinda have to find what works best for you and your bike.

Agreed. A little over is no big deal.

I'm also a Rotella guy (or any 15w-40 diesel engine oil) and the 20w-50 might just be a bit thicker and making it harder to find neutral. As mentioned, the tranny will break in and be easier to find all the gears with time.

I know my '08 Goldwing shifts a lot better now at 3000 miles than it did when new..

When I change oil I let the hot oil drain then I stand he bike up and lean it side to side and back to the neutral position to drain as much old oil out. Sight glasses can appear over full if the bike is leaned just a little past neutral. I use valvoline premium blue 15w40 diesel oil.

I did drain out over 300cc last night. The neutral problem went away.

Thanks for your help and replies
