Still popping even when done all mods

hey guyz, i got a 2000 klr 650 c model with 50.000 kms with the following mods:

klx needle 3rd notch 150 mj 2.5 pilot

free flow home made exhaust

valves checked

new gasket at exhaust

desnorkled

my problem is that its still popps, even when needle is on 5 notch, even when snorkel is back on, exhaust isnt leaking for sure and valves is within limits. carb is cleaned no jet is clogged etc.

Carb Air Cut Off Valve is the only thing i cannot check i guess since i must order a new 1. at 1st sight it seems ok..... what else can it be :///

Mixture screw out 1-3/4 turns or more?

Popping on deceleration may be a function of your, "home-made" exhaust.

It doesn't take much air entering an exhaust on deceleration to mix with the unburned fuel and "pop". Any air leak will cause this especially one near the head.

As soon as at c model i cant see rpm, i can say that it pops after wot to fully closed and it is more noticable at 1-2 gear.

Forgot to wrote turns, they are 2 1/4, even at 3 turns there is no difference. My home made exhaust has no effect i guess cause it pops even with stock. My guess is the air cut off valve, is there a way i can check if it works properly?

Totally agree but there is no airleek, have checked it my self. And it pops only in certain circumstances , lets say im with half throttle 2nd gear and if i let throttle there is no pop, is i go at 1st gear instead it goes bam bam bam till im slowed down.

Use a #42 pilot jet.

I would assume that your home made exhaust is intended to maximize flow. With the engine breathing better than stock the original pilot jet can't keep up with the airflow on decel.

Fiddling with the idle mix screw will only result in an overly-rich idle; it won't feed the decel valve enough to prevent popping.

Reading through this my only usable answer is just to ride and enjoy the bike.

It sounds like you've tightened up any possible leaks.
I'm slightly rich at 1 2/3 turns on the idle screw. Going out
further than 1 3/4 will only waste fuel.

The circumstances in which the pop occurs isn't a normal pattern.
I'm with the other guys who answered. Everything points to the
exhaust. It won't destroy the engine, and your pop is controllable.

Mine sounded like a popcorn popper until I got BOTH exhaust gaskets.

Neuton,
My 1987 header pipe developed a hair-line crack. Pop, pop, pop.

Installed a 2009 header pipe, some low speed 'surging' and pop, pop.

Installed #42 pilot jet, all is well. And my fuel mileage actually went UP, but I did do a few other modifications.
Read here, http://www.klrforum.com/1987-2007-wr...ride-data.html

I've still got an 'almost stock' muffler though.
