Help TRIPLE CLAMP not in line

I was out playing one day and laid the damn thing down. The only thing I seem to have messed up is the triple clamps. It does not seem to be aligned. the top triple clamp does not line up with the bottom clamp. The handlebars seem to be turning to the right slightly. What do I have loosen up to adjust the triple clamps? Would appreciate any help and when answering please answer like you are talking to a child. I am idiot.

Thanks, Jeff

Loosen the top and bottom clamps, and bang the front wheel a couple times to allow it to straighten up, and tighten them all down to the correct spec..

Now for the hard part. The bike has to be supported under the frame to do this, or the forks will just pass up through the clamps when you loosen them..

Bucket/wood/actual bike lift/etc. to support the frame and go to work. It should pass right back to straight as soon as you get stuff loose.

Is this right?

Like I said, I am an idiot... So, I do not have to loosen the big nut that is under the handlebar, all I have to do is loosen the bolts that are holding the front forks onto the triple clamp?

Correct. It's kinda like when we all had to realign our bicycle handlebars when we took a spill on that big jump over three cinder blocks. You just need to lossen the fork clamps twist and bang the front wheel and handlebar to get them back in line.

Looking to get back into KLR's sometime soon.

Just like DX said, give it a whack and it'll go back to where it should be.. Right now the fork tubes have rotated slightly in the clamps. Loosen the clamps and it'll go back to straight.. Maybe a couple turns of the handlebars to the locks will help.. Shouldn't take much..

The large nut you're talking about is only a pivot for the entire triple clamp assembly. It's not the issue with this..

Loosen, whack it a couple times, tighten and it should be as good (or maybe better?) than new!!

No sir... Thank YOU for the question!!

It's the cool thing about this site and these bikes. They're simple, and chances are what happened to you has happened to several here. Just passing on info that we picked up from others when we asked the same questions as you..
