Jetting ??

With out writing a book. I was on the site in the past but weather work & life have kept me off the bike and simply busy. The carb is dirty now bike sputters etc. I need to clean it out. I have been in it once before but dont remember what jets are in it. I Bought the bike used last year low miles and a muffler upgrade. Its Saturday so when the stores are closed you get the picture. Thoughts on Jet size for main jet with pipe upgrade no other mods. I think Im already good but If I need to run the store I would like to be a little more educated.

Thanks Brad

OK I WROTE A BOOK

You're probably OK, regarding jet sizes.

If you seriously want to clean and adjust your carburetor, I refer you thus:

Ok carb apart. According to the dealer pilot size either 38 or 40 depending on what ever Alt. or country? Main from 142 to 152. That being said they cannot tell you should have this. I have a 40 for the pilot and it blocked. I could clean it out but its so small whos to say its right. As for the main its a 150. I now realize the air box top has been cut out, K&N and the needle has a taper with clip spots and clipped on the second for the top. I believe the slip on is a Jardin RT-4. I repacked it when I got the bike noisey and still noisey but Ill have live with it for a while. The bike ran good when I first cleaned the carb but I now realize that the pilot could have been working but not optimum. So Ill pick up a new one and bowl gasket. Anybody think the 150 jet is a little high? Or if it aint broke dont fix it. Ill say this sense I bought the bike last year it has sat more than ridden and not much highway so I dont know how would behave after a long run time. Maybe Im over thinking it but I dont want to take it apart 20 times.

150 main on a Sporster needle here.

Makes me feel a bit safer at 6500 rpms if I'm a hair rich than lean.
Plug looks pretty clean the few times it's been out.

We aren't fully on the main jet until 7/8 throttle to pop the needle all the way up.
