This exhaust gotta go

So the can my KLR had on it when I got it is too damn loud. I was beginning to tolerate the noise (sounded like a helicopter bearing down on me at idle), but the exhaust can recently exploded. I don't know how it happened, but that bitch was just falling apart right on the bike. So I don't think I want to bother trying to save it. Recommendations for a swap? I don't mind my bikes being a little loud when I get on the throttle, but I typically prefer them to be mellow when idling (prevents headaches and grumpy Taiwanese men at stoplights).

That can happen to an exhaust if it's not properly repacked at certain intervals. Almost all aftermarket exhausts have to be repacked over time. With the exception of Staintune and Leo Vince Lx3 ( I spoke to pro-ciruit and they said their t-5 doesn't get repacked, but that response has generated mixed results). First off, what exhaust did you have? As far as quiet, most recommend the Leo Vince, fmf Q4, or the Lexx with the quiet insert. Personally I run the FMF PowerCore and find it fine. But whats fine for me, may be too loud for you. Another note when researching exhaust, is the shorter the canister, generally the louder the note. As is such with Two Brothers or DG.

Back2Kawi has you covered. The only things I'd add is that the staintune is ridiculously expensive. The best choices for quiet (other than stock obviously) are the LeoVince X3 if you don't want to repack and the Lexx if you don't mind the periodic maintenance. Both are about 94db. I also like my FMF Q4 but it is louder than my LV

Thanks, y'all. Not sure what it was that was on there before--it was a short, fat little thing with no brand markings on it. Almost looked to me like it was aluminum, wrapped with carbon fiber. It wasn't pretty, but I was growing accustomed to the noise. I like my exhaust a little noisy. My VR (little Chinese dirtbike) has a Suzuka on it, whatever that is. It sounds pretty good. My Yamaha FJ1200 has D&D, and it sounds great. Not sure how some of the others sound on a KLR--Arrow, Akrapovic, Yoshimura, FMF, etc. I do know that stock ain't gonna happen. That thing sounds silly, and I don't want to try and find one, anyway.
