Kenda K270 C Speed Rating

I just purchased a set of Kenda K270's for my 2005 KLR 650. A 3.00 21 for the front and a 5.10 17 for the rear. After they were delivered I realized they had a speed rating of C for 37 MPH!

The cycle will be ridden mostly on trails but also on the street, probably 70% dirt and 30% street. I will definitely ride it on the highway to reach some local trails.

Should I be concerned with the C speed rating? Is it dangerous to exceed 37 MPH? Hell, I can reach speeds over 37 on trails! I'm sure some of you out there are running these tires, what has been your experience with them? Should I be concerned running these tires on the highway at speeds up to 75 MPH? I'd love to hear your opinions or actual experiences running these tires on a KLR 650.

As far as I know, a "C" rating is only for high-speed racing wheelbarrow tires.

Motorcycle tires are usually rated at least "J".

My copy of the K270 is rated "P", which means 93mph or faster than any sane person would ride the 270.

Did you get that information off of Amazon or off of the tire?

I got my machete and hacked my way into the Shed of Horrors where the 270s hang to bring you this enchanting photo:

The 71 is the load rating, some 345 kg IIRC, and the speed rating is "P".

Never mind the drippings on the rim and sidewall; it's pee. Damn things make me pee my pants every time I ride them...

Clearly I'm an idiot for trusting Amazon for information! After examining the tires themselves they are indeed "P" rated. Crisis averted.

"Yeah I would give them a grade of 'C' for accuracy", Tom said testily.

I believe the C is the load range rather than the speed rating. Load range C on that 6ply tire is good for 760lbs at 40psi.

JJ,
Does Canada use some different rating system on tires than the USA? "C"?
My book doesn't go that low. Only to J=62 mph.

Toms pic of tire shows "71P", which should be correct in the USA.
My book agrees.
71=761 lbs at a full speed of P=93 mph.

761 at 93, really! No wonder some of those fat boys in the cities back east can seemingly wheelie a KLR650 for Ever! Even at Night! Yikes!

Regarding the Amazon info, I think there must be an error an algorithm where they pick off a piece of the manufacturer's part number thinking it is the speed rating and drop it in the speed rating box.

I have found that Amazon lists incorrect speed ratings in several places, always using an odd (way off) letter next to a box clearly marked "Speed Rating". Not all of their listings have a speed rating, however.

Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/Kenda-K270-En.../dp/B00BUNM752

Oh my goodness Tom!
According to that, it's apparently been down-graded to 'B'.

That makes it better for the KLR, right?
