Gen1/Gen2 Front master cylinder assy compatibility?

The housing on mine is cracked. Piston isn't leaking but the lever's wobbly and the switch is boogered. Need to know if an 08+ will bolt up to 07-, and if it'll work with the caliper on there right now. Thanks!

edit: bike is an 06

I haven't done it but is should work fine. Many people use different MC's including the popular EX500 master. Personally, I find the stock Gen 1 front brake to be dismal. Both my KLR's use the following;

- 320mm EBC rotor
- SV650 Caliper adaptor
- Suzuki SV twin piston caliper
- stainless steel brake line

....the rotor and caliper adaptor is available from Eagle Mfg & Eng and the SV caliper is available at the usual places used (i.e. ebay).

This setup with the stock master cylinder works very well and brings the KLR's front brake back into the current decade of dual purpose performance. Many have tried different masters and have reported a loss of feel (a wooden feeling).....others are happy with the swap.

hope this helps,
Dave

Speaking of F. Master brake cylinders, has anyone found a source for the 18mm fluid level window used on a Gen1?
