New owner. Gas leak. Please help!

I recently acquired a 1995 with 15,000 miles for a very good price. It looks like its been sitting outside for a while and hasn't been taken care of. I got it running with a new battery and spark plug but the gas is pouring out of a hose coming from the top of the carburetor.

Also, it wont idle as it should. It stall at low RPMs. I tried adjusting the idle screw but it will only stay running at 1/4 throttle.

I am fairly new to motorcycles and know almost nothing about KLRs. Please help!

It's likely that the float is stuck open allowing gas to fill the bowl and come out of the vent tube at the to of the carb. I'm surprised it runs.

You could try rapping on the side of the carb with the handle of a screwdriver to see if you can jar the float loose, but the carb probably has other issues as well and needs to be rebuilt.

It's not hard, refer to these videos.

I bought a 1999 Honda with 30k last year that had been left to outside neglect. Found rebuilding the carb and replacing all the hoses, brake lines, generator, fork seals, clutch and clutch lines, brake and clutch reservoirs, most electrical parts as well as the shock it runs great. Now I've only got the windscreen, seat cover, most of the fairings, tires, handlebar grips, mirrors as well as possibly several more minor things and I'll have another RTB (Round The Block) bike. But hey what's one man's treasure can be another man's pleasure, Ive enjoyed every minute of it and now feel akin to this bike still costing me less than my wife and her hobbies.

I hope you have better luck than I did. sigh...
