What is the best tire for many miles & rain?

I'm a little ways away from replacing the rear tire but I have been wondering what would be the best tire for lots of miles and for those days that I hit rain.

I do most of my riding on the street (sad to say) with most of it to and from work mixed in with long interstate travel.

I'm sure you'll get lots of responses and advice, but I'll chip in. I replaced the stock tire at 4300 or so, as it was pretty much bald.
I put on the Mefo Explorer, which now has about 3400 on it, and it still has probably over half the tread left. It feels pretty grippy, but I haven't ridden it much in the rain.. too many idiots that don't know how to drive cars in the rain around here.
I try to run it at about 32-35 psi, and know that you will get uneven wear of the tread knobs if you run it at low pressure on pavement.
So far, I'm really pleased with my choice.

I went with the Avon distanzias for the same reason. I do 99% of my riding on the street, and if I got caught in the rain, I wanted a tire that would channel water and stick like glue. I have almost 4000 miles on my distanzia's, and they have at least 80% tread left on them. I am gonna replace them a little early though, cause I'm planning a 5000 mile trip this summer, and I want fresh rubber. I'm gonna keep the old tires as backups.

Avon Gripster for the rear if you don't intend to be riding in mud. Average milage on Gripsters is around 7000 mi. Besides the front will aid you more in the rain than the rear. I have yet to find a front tire that is significantly longer distance than the stock tire and gives a better road ride with improved traction.

I loved the factory front tire. Was the best of any we tried. Loved the Gripster for the rear.

Previous ride was a 2007 KLR Black/Silver, I miss it..

I should add that many really like the distanza rear. I have a Maxis 6006 and a Chin-shin front waiting to be put on the rims when the old front stock tire wears out. Tread patterns are very similar to the stock front tire so it will be interesting to see how they work.

Thanks guys. I'm still a little ways away from changing the tires. I think I have about 6,000 on the rear (maybe 5,000 not sure at the moment). I think I'll order a stock front and go with the gripster for the rear.

Just wanted you guys to know that I just didn't post and disappear.

I agree in fact I was looking at my front today and it is still 80% left and my rear dunlop is almost bald.
