Name the part

Hey everyone, I found a part on the ground by my bike. It's like a grey plastic capsule, and it's got black rubber tubes attached to both ends. It has Up and an arrow on the side. It looks like one of the rubber tubes got old and broke off. Does anyone know what it it? I can't find the broken tube.

Sounds like the filter thingy that goes on the end of the hose that comes off the airbox. Not sure what it's called, but maybe that's a little info to search on.

That would be correct 'shiny'!

Sherlock, There are 2 air filter box drains Above the forward tip of the rear Inner fender. That hose and catch bottle connect to the drain on the Clean-Side of the air box. (The forward nipple.)
It Needs to be replaced or Capped OFF, to keep your engine from breathing Dirty Air and wearing its self out, ASAP!

I had to look that up and ( according to Clymer, at least) that's? supposed to catch any extra oil residue that way find its way off of your air filter. Huh...

So even the Clymer service manual has at least 1 error in it!

There are 3 air box drains total.

One above the drive chain, with a rubber flapper valve. One under the Left front corner of the Dirty air filter, with a rubber flapper valve. One Directly ahead of the Air Filter Sealing wall in the clean air plenum chamber, with Preferably a drain hose attached.
The only oil which might be on this side of the air filter box would potentially be from the crankcase vent. From say extreme over filling of engine oil or carb flooding gas past the piston rings or from a crash on a steep hill. The translucent catch bottle allows one to see if anything needs to be drained and determine the Why/How that something other than Clean Air got in there in the 1st place!

The newest KLR's use a larger diameter clear hose from the nipple to the plug. And some owners cap the nipple! Any which way, we need to keep the dirt out of the clean side of the air box.
