auxiliary lights mounting

Bought a set of these and waiting for them to arrive:

2pcs 125W U5 LED Motorcycle Headlight Driving Fog Light Spot Lamp+Switch New | eBay

I was going to mount them on my SW-Motech crash bars , but I've heard stories about them vibrating apart. Is this a real concern? Any suggestions about where else to mount them. I'd like them to be close to car headlight level.

It's a 2012 - this somehow wound up in the wrong section. I'll repost.

Thanks Norm, I'm assuming the Moose Bracket is the one for Gen 2?

The lights I bout have a clamp which would go directly on to the crash bars - trying to decide whether or not that is a good idea - I'm looking to have lights about the level of car headlights as I find cage drivers don't seem to see the tall KLR. Didn't notice the problem to the same degree with my Goldwing which had the low driving lights.

Hope you're feeling better - fighting a bad cold myself.

I'm convinced that the visibility issue with the KLR has to do with the height of the lights - that's why I was thinking of the crashbar mount. The only other option would be to somehow attach the to the front forks - not sure how easily that could be done.

When I get the lights, I'll look at them to assess how solid they are - may try and rig some sort of damping system.

Please keep me in the loop because I'm often asked for an opinion on these kinds of matters and am most concerned to provide as valid views as possible.

I have seen some windscreen mounts used to attach driving lights to the fork tubes, FWIW. One set which I recall had rubber inserts which might help with damping.

The combination turn/signal lights was a very significant improvement in how visible are the Gen1's I've done, FWIW.

Another factor is the headlight: It appears to me that single frequency headlights catch visual attention better than broad spectrum ones. I understand that this is because of the light loading being higher on the eye's receptors attuned to that frequency, but it seems certain that LED and HID headlights are more attention grabbing. I have been installing HID for years but have mainly switched to LED which I find to be even more satisfactory. The 35 Watt HID (draw about 2.4 amps when warmed up) appear to deliver a similar illumination pattern and density to a relay equipped 100/60 Super Silver quartz iodide bulb in a Gen1. The LED draws about 2.8 amps (compared to about 4.9 amps for a stock 60/55 QI bulb) but the light output appears roughly equivalent to two 100/60 Super Silver QI bulbs in a wiring upgraded ST1100. Neither HID or LED seem to draw complaints from other vehicles, IME.

The question of wiring the driving lights might be open so can help with suggestions there, if desired.

Hello there Norm! I thought the rabbits dragged you off into the woods somewhere. Glad you're back. These new guys need you bad! They're lost. We've just been making up advice to keep them all occupied. LOL
