From beast to baby...

I'm not sure what has happened...bad gas? low octane? broken carb?

Recently the KLR has seemed to ping more easily at high end when under load (predetonation). I was going to try higher octane gas on next fillup.

Then, yesterday, I completely lost the back end of my throttle. Everything seems normal in 1, 2, 3 gears, but the end of 4 and 5 I can twist it and get no response. Doesn't go much over 4000 rpm and will barely go 60 mph.

Anyone have an idea??!

I would drain the tank and the carb. After that start with some different gas. That will either cure the problem or eliminate fuel from the list of suspects.

Good advice Ard. Use some Sea-Foam when you refill the fuel tank.

Also check the vacuum hose that connects to the Petcock. This hose can pinch with age. The best fix is to re-route with new vacuum hose. From the Intake connection, over the Carburetor, and to the Petcock. This is a good mod even if it is not the current problem.
