97 KLR resurrection thread
Hi everyone. Here is my story. I bought a 97 KLR650 for parts in NYC way back in 2007. I bought it right before I bought my house. The bike seemed to have been abused a bit. I never got it running but did some mods to the brakes and replaced a lever that was bad before storing it. Luckily it has been inside for the last 11 years.
When I tried to get it running, It seems like the head gasket was leaking coolant when I filled it. Another issue I ran into was the ignition switch seemed to be faulty so I wasn't getting power. The gas tank started leaking last year so that will need to be repaired or replaced.
My main goal with this bike is just to get it roadworthy and running reliably. I heard these engines are reliable so I am hoping to be able to salvage it but I need to get it to crank over first. The mileage was stupid low when I bought it. There was a close to footlong bolt in the side case with the slack taken up with castle nuts.
