Chain miles?

How long does a typical chain last on the KLR befor it needs changing? I have 7100 miles on mine and it is getting streched pretty good.

Wow.. Seems like not many miles for a chain to go bad. I've got 18,000 on mine and the sprockets are just starting to show wear. And I'm not a chain lube guy.. I'll spray it every 500 or so miles, if I remember..

Just clicked 20K on the original chain on an '08. Its looks good and is within spec. Shows little wear. I have been liberal with the lube. My '05 ate its original chain at 13K. I lubed it too but it seemed to be made from a lesser quality metal than on my '08.
