Engine mounting bolts

Anybody know whether the engine mounting bolts are compression threaded? I have the engine out of my '05 KLR and was inspecting the large rear mounting bolt. The nut starts onto the first thread or more of the bolt then gets snug/stops and is finger tight. I've closely inspected the threads of the nut and bolt and they look good. Tried cleaning them and slowly tightening with the wrench. It doesn't look like they are cross-threading, but thought I'd ask about the possibility that they are compression before I go further. Thanks!

Sounds like you are actually working with the Swingarm Pivot bolt, yes it anchors the engine as well. Many times while driving the larger, longer bolts out during disassembly ones punch gets off to the side and damages/compresses the threads.
No, its not manufactured as a compression thread.

You could take the bolt & nut to a shop and have them pass a thread chaser or die over the bolt & a tap thru the nut. Most likely its the bolt threads. Should be able to spin it on with fingers.
Tool companies also make thread files. 8 inch long, 1/2 inch square so always have 2 - 3 threads overlaping on clean straight threads as repairing the damaged tip or side.
Double ended so has 8 thread sizes on one file. Ours are New Britain brand, we've had them over 40 years. They even work on Left Hand Threads!
