Oil types used

I know this is will probably get me a million replies but what kind of oil types are you guys using, and when did you do your first oil change on a new motor? I'd rather not use the kawi brand my dealer would like to sell me just because of the price factor. So can you use just a standard automotive oil, I've always been a fan of Valvoline.

You opened the can of worms amigo. Let me predict the responses:

1) It doesn't matter.
2) It doesn't matter as long as you use 4 stroke MC oil.
3) It doesn't matter as long as you use Rotella.
4) Change the oil at ten miles.
5) Change the oil within the first 100 miles and then every 2K.
6) Change the oil?

I pretty much would go with #2 and #5. I use Rotella, but I used to use Castrol. I changed my oil for the first time pretty damn quick. And I change it sooner rather than later. EMGO filter are good and cheap as hell.

If you've got a lot of time on your hands, search the subject. Take about two days to read everything that's been posted on the subject.

I use Rotella.

One caution -- don't use anything that's has a friction lowering additive (i.e. "high milage" etc). Generally will make clutch slip.

Neither of these two have a FRICKEN CLUE what they're talking about!!

I use Rotella and Emgo filters..

Oh, and the Rotella I use is 15W-40 dino oil, not synthetic.

I've been a fan of Valvoline for a long time now so decided on Valvoline 4-stroke motorcycle oil.

Castrol Actevo...
Good stuff, good price. Here's a link to Motorcycle Superstore's page that shows the oil. I usually get it cheaper than this locally.

Go to google and search for "all about motor oil". It is calsci.com This site convinced me Rotella T Synthetic 15w-40 is the way to go.
